Beverly Manor

Mid-Century Roots, Birmingham Schools, Quiet Village Streets

One of the original platted neighborhoods of the Village of Beverly Hills — a tree-lined pocket of mid-century single-family homes that helped define what the community would become.

About Beverly Manor

Beverly Manor traces back to the post-war platting wave that transformed this stretch of Southfield Township from farmland into one of Oakland County’s first true bedroom suburbs. Most of the original homes went up between the late 1940s and the mid-1960s — modest ranches, split-levels, and Colonial Revivals on generous lots, built during the same period the village itself was incorporating as Westwood in 1958 and then renaming to Beverly Hills the following year.

The housing stock today reflects that mid-century bones — three- and four-bedroom single-family homes, well-maintained and steadily renovated, with the architectural mix the village is known for: classic Colonials sitting next door to flat-roofed mid-century moderns. Lots are deep, mature trees arch over the streets, and the curvilinear plat layout — common to the era — keeps through-traffic out. There is no HOA on the original sections, which most longtime residents consider a feature rather than a gap.

Schools are the headline. Beverly Manor sits squarely inside Birmingham Public Schools — the Niche A+ district — with elementary-age children typically walking to Beverly Elementary (A-rated) or zoned to Greenfield Elementary nearby, then feeding to Berkshire Middle School and, depending on the specific address, Groves High School (A+) or Seaholm. The walk-to-school character is one of the most quoted reasons families with school-age kids target this pocket specifically.

Day-to-day, Beverly Manor lives quietly. Downtown Birmingham is a five-minute drive east; Beverly Park (the 34-acre village park with sled hill, disc golf, and Rouge River frontage) is a short walk or bike ride south; and Corewell Health Beaumont Royal Oak is roughly fifteen minutes southeast. Residents describe it as the trade many families come here to make — Birmingham schools and Birmingham proximity, on a village street, at a price step below Birmingham proper.
