Trinity Health’s Providence Hospital campus, ITC Holdings’ headquarters, and Hitachi’s American operations cluster nearby, alongside hundreds of smaller engineering and supplier firms that orbit Detroit’s automotive sector. The result is a daytime population that swells well beyond the resident count, and a tax base that funds unusually well-kept parks, roads, and civic facilities.

Novi is also one of the most internationally diverse communities in Michigan. It is home to the state’s largest concentration of Japanese American residents — supported by a Japanese supermarket, language school, and a cluster of restaurants along Grand River — and a fast-growing South Asian population centered around the city’s tech and engineering employers. That diversity shows up in the school district, the festival calendar, and the dining scene, giving Novi a cosmopolitan flavor unusual for a Midwestern suburb of its size.

Housing in Novi runs the full suburban spectrum: starter condos near Twelve Oaks, large 1990s-and-newer subdivisions across the city’s middle, and luxury enclaves like Tollgate and Cheltenham Estates on the wooded north side. Most neighborhoods feed into the Novi Community School District, though pockets fall within Walled Lake Consolidated or Northville Public Schools — a distinction worth checking address by address. What unites the city is the trade-off it offers: low walkability and a heavy reliance on cars, in exchange for top-tier schools, ample retail, and a level of cultural variety that keeps drawing new arrivals.
