Founded in 1832 and named for the Clark brothers in 1842, the Village was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1976 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 as the Clarkston Village Historic District. The district takes in Main Street (M-15), Buffalo, Church, Clarkston Road, Depot, Holcomb, Miller, Waldon, and Washington — more than 100 historic structures in total.
The architectural mix is remarkably broad for a community this small: well-preserved Queen Anne homes share streets with Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, Stick Style, Mansard, Empire, Bungalow, and Vernacular examples. Many homes have been carefully restored by owners who value period detail; others have been thoughtfully updated for modern living while keeping their exterior character intact.
What sets the Village apart in this market is genuine walkability. Residents stroll to Main Street restaurants, cafés, boutiques, and the seasonal concerts and festivals at Depot Park.
